LINK Changemaker Series - The Power of Convening with a Global Lens

Convening is one of the most powerful ways to engage within a community. At LINK, we are witnesses to the remarkable opportunities and ideas that can come to fruition only by bringing people together and providing a safe space for exploration and innovation. The desire for collective convening comes from recognizing the many challenges we face today, and understanding these challenges cannot be solved working alone. Our dynamic panelists are here to delve into their experiences convening from different places around the globe.

Women in Leadership

LINK Changemaker Series:
A Deeper Look into Second Chances

April is Second Chance Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the barriers faced by individuals with criminal records and unlock brighter futures for returning citizens. Today, we have invited distinguished professionals with experiences from both sides of the pond to talk about models for supporting newly returning citizens. We’ll be hearing from representatives of the UK-based Skill Mill, a social enterprise providing employment for young ex–offenders. We'll also hear from representatives from Georgetown University's Pivot Program, which provides formerly incarcerated individuals with leadership and professional development through business and entrepreneurship. We're also joined by Joe Houston Jr, aka Mr. WeFit, and Founder, WeFitDC . Joe wears many hats as an entrepreneur, actor, author, and writer.

LINK Changemaker Series:
The Importance of Multi-Generational Workplaces

June 1, 2023, is Intergenerational Day. This day identifies ways in which different generations can come together, through shared understanding and learning, and allow people to understand the similar connections and benefits multi-generations can bring to one another, through culture, work, and community. Intergenerational Day comes hot on the heels of Older Americans Month in May and allows further opportunities to bring together impactful individuals that represent multiple generations within workplaces. We want to focus today on the discussion around the mission-critical nature of Older Americans in the workforce and how this shows up at LINK and other organizations within the district. More than this, we want to explore how workplaces are strengthened through the diversity and perspectives that those with different professional experiences and lived experiences bring to their place of work.
